Overview

Langtang Valley Trekking is the third widespread trekking trail in Nepal’s Himalaya after Everest and Annapurna trekking trails. It is best known for its pristine forests, high-elevation pastures of wild sheep, Tibetan-like culture and lovely mountain views. The word “Langtang” is derivative from the Tibetan name “Langtang” meaning “the following ox”. The terrifying and restful setting of Langtang valley, numerous pilgrimage sites on the way,  prayer flags, cheese factories are some of the major attractions of this trekking. Langtang region is dominated by Tamang culture, the land of Tamangs is rich in alpine flora and fauna. One can also visit Goshaikunda Lakes in this trek. The trek would be worthwhile to involvement both Buddhists and Hindus culture. Different flowering and non-flowering plants, wide varieties of wildlife into the Langtang National Park, serene landscapes and close-up mountain views fascinate all types of trekkers to this region.

The main attraction of this trekking is the Kyanging gompa. It is mysterious and interesting valley because after you inter you enter into this valley then immediately you tend to forget from where you were there…it is the valley surrounded by silver shining snow-capped mountain all around it. Numerous holy shrines, monasteries in this valley remind you of spiritual life abandoning all the worldly things. Most of the trekking way falls within the boundaries of Langtang National Park. Himalayan black bear, shared leopard, red panda and snow leopard but mostly noted for its birds and flowers. The Langtang valley trekking usually starts from Dhunche or Syabru Besi and ends at the same place. And you have driven to Dhunche or Sybrubesi from Kathmandu and follow the same way to Kathmandu.


    Namaste! Welcome to Nepal. With architectural temples and ancient crafts, Kathmandu is a city full of cultural diversity. Begin your adventure expedition with a meeting. In the meeting, we will brief you about the trekking itinerary and also, have your details and paperwork ready. After the meeting, you can start exploring the capital city of Kathmandu.

    After breakfast, take a lengthy and exhausting drive to Syabrubesi. Enjoy your time strolling around old streets of the village and admire the beauty of nature. Drive along the hillside to slowly reach Syabrubesi. Don’t get scared on the way; the roads through Dhunche are a little scary. Check-in. Try a few local cuisines, the major being dal bhat.

    Start our travel by foot out to the scenic trails of the Lama Hotel. The walk to the village is quite easy than it looks, but tiring. Keep hydrating yourself as the hike up is steep and terraced. Take the trek easy. Ascend slowly uphill through Doman for a waterfall view. The further climb will take us to Pahiro and Bamboo. Travel into the Rimche village deeply to climb uphill and reach the Lama Hotel.

    Thanks to the determination and hard work of Nepalese people, the Langtang Village is back on its feet once again. You will find out the devastation caused by the 2015 earthquake in this area. Dig deep into the destruction caused by the earthquake and compare it to the present condition to know the villager’s tragic story. Explore the paths to the village of Ghoda Tabela, Thangshyap, and all the way to Langtang. Also, relax amidst the views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Yala Peak.

    Today, a more strenuous trek via the flat and easy trail to Kyanjin Gompa. Your guide will show you the beauty of the Kyanjin Gompa. Along the way, listen to the story of the largest mani walls of the country alongside some breathtaking views of the Langtang Massif. The village has been the base of the climb to the Tserko RI peak at 5000 meters. With its breathtaking views and humble hospitality, the trek to this region has become a tourist favorite.

    Make an early start and join your guide to summit the high peak of Tserko RI. The top has great views of the Langtang Massif. Take your time to soak in all the mountainous views and hike downhill back to the Kyanjin Gompa. Enjoy lunch at the Gompa and stroll around the village for its exploration. Experience the generous way of life of the local community.

    Trace your steps back through the villages we used in the previous trails. The trek takes us back to the Lama Hotel. A fully downhill walk to get to the devastated Langtang Village. Further walk downhill to get through Thangshyap, and Ghoda Tabela to finally reach the Lama Hotel.

    A same itinerary as the previous day. Follow your steps back through the villages of Rimche and Pahiro to make it to Syabrubesi. The hike to Syabrubesi is easy as it only has downhill hikes and flat plains. Enjoy the last views of the mountains of the Langtang Massif.

    An early day as we will board the vehicle for a long drive to the Kathmandu Valley. Stroll around Syabrubesi for one last time. Shop for souvenirs and memoirs if you want. Don’t get afraid of the road conditions of the country. We will guide you to the hotel room and that’s all for this trip.

Kathmandu guest house provides different sorts of facilities with enough parking available, AC rooms, clean room with the attached bathroom. It also offers hot and cold shower facilities. It has an attractive garden with plenty of space available for rest. It offers 5-star service with located in the central point of Thamel.

Kathmandu to shyabrubesi to Kathmandu

Himalayan friendly provides you transportation services from Kathmandu to Syabrubesiby public bus. Syabrubesi is the starting point of Langtang trekking which is one of the most widespread trekking areas in Nepal.  The scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi takes approx. eight to nine hours by Local Bus on (SIC BASIS). Due to rough and rocky road, jeep drive is best for the trip. If you are interested then we can also offer you Jeep for the drive to Syabrubesi.  While driving to Syabrubesi you will see the northern part of the Langtang region come closer and bigger. You can get a good deal on a jeep from Himalayan Friendly.

Equipment List

The following list should help you with your packing. Generally, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum

Footwear

Trekking boots, trekking socks, and sandals.

Clothing: 

Down jacket, waterproof jacket, and trousers, trekking trousers, long sleeve shirts, microfleece, mid to heavyweight fleece, sleeveless or body warmer type fleece, thermals or base layer for top & bottom (merino wool or synthetic), fleece pants,

Handwear:

fleece gloves warm mittens and/or gloves.

Headwear:

Sun hat, wool or fleece hat, scarf, head torch and extra batteries for incase, and sunglasses.

Personal Equipment:

Day backpack large enough to carry water bottles, camera, lunch and extra clothing, stuff sacks for keeping your gear dry and organized, two water bottles (Nalgene wide-mouth bottles are the best), sunscreen and lip salve with a high SPF, insect repellent, water purification tablets (Pristine, Box Aqua or Aqua Mira), iPod and cards etc., trekking poles, camera with spare batteries and memory cards, insurance certificate.

Personal first aid kit:

Small personal first-aid kit. (Simple and light), Aspirin, first-aid tape, plasters (Band-Aids), 1 skin-blister repair kit Anti-diarrhea pills, Anti-headache pills, Cough and/or cold medicine, Anti-altitude sickness pills: Diamox or Acetylzolamide, Stomach antibiotic: Ciprofloxacin, etc. Do not bring sleeping pills as they are a respiratory depressant, Water purification tablets or water filter, 1 set of earplugs, Extra pair of prescription glasses and contact lens supplies.
