Mardi Himal Base Camp trek is a generally new program in the Annapurna area. It gives us a chance to escape the group and simply appreciate characteristic views and social conditions of rural Nepal. The Mardi Himal is occupied with an unseen stone of nature (lush bamboo and beautiful rhododendron shrubberies) and culture. A journey to the Mardi Himal brings you to discover the most iconic Mount Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail) in the Annapurna region and trek finished the small snaking paths by following the beautiful rhododendron forests.  Trekking in the high altitude in the rugged high mountain landscape with stunning Himalaya’s views such as Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Hiunchuli is really rewarding. The Mardi Himal is an adventure to discover the enormous limp glaciers and trekking on the high ridge with the opulence views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and its vicinity of Manaslu and Mardi Himal in front of us is indeed awe-rousing.

Short Summary of Mardi Himal Trek

A quick sightseeing tour of the valley including the tour of seven UNESCO World Heritage sites is followed by a briefing of your trek ahead. You will drive to Pokhara on the following day. Phedi, a short drive of 45 minutes from Pokhara, is the place from where our trekking starts. Gradually taking after the trial, we head towards Pothana appreciating the common lifestyle and close-ups of wonderful towns. We then head through delightful rhododendron forests and stay overnight at local camps called Kokar in the regional dialect. As we leave on the following day, we move towards the lower base camp which gives us a few but peaceful views of Mt. Fishtail and other snowcapped mountains. At last, on our outing, we trek to Mardi Himal from where you will have prominent and staggering views of the Himalayas at 4,450 m. Later in the day, we return to high camp for our stay overnight and then we descend gradually downhill. Along the way, we pass through the quiet villages of Siding, Lwang and Khora Muk. As we near the end of our journey, we take a short drive to Pokhara.

Best Time to go For Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Trek can be visited during any time of the year, however, the most preferred season is in spring when rhododendron forests are in full bloom and in fall when the skies get clearer each day revealing the majestic mountains in the horizon. The Best seasons for Mardi Himal Trek are autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May). In this period, the climate is sunny and heartfelt with an outstanding view of Himalaya Ranges. Summer or Monsoon seasons starts from June to August, which will be pretentious by rain and coincidental of the spell by leeches.

    Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. You will be warm welcome by our airport representative and escort to your hotel. Stay Overnight at hotel Kathmandu.

    After breakfast, take a lengthy and exhausting drive to Pokhara. Enjoy your time wandering around the lake city. Admire the beauty of the Cherapunji of Nepal. Drive alongside the hillside along the Prithvi Highway to reach Pokhara. The roads are not even on some sections but, our drivers are experienced for such situations.

    Start our travel with a drive to Phedi. The drive will take us not more than a couple of hours depending on the traffic. With important equipment packed, we set out to the village of Deurali. Climb uphill through the green lush forest and the high hills to get to Deurali. Make your way past the Dhampus and Pothana village to arrive at Deurali. Enjoy the views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Himal Chuli peaks.

    Start our travel by foot out to the scenic trails of the Forest Camp. The walk is on the muddy rhododendron trail. Due to the mud, the hike will be a bit more tiring. Don’t forget to drink sips of water along the way. Ascend slowly uphill through the subtropical forest to reach Kokar. Kokar is used as another name for the Forest Camp.

    Dig deep through the woods and enjoy the blooming of red rhododendron flowers. Further climb uphill to get to a denser forest. A steady walk along the muddy trails takes you to the Low Camp. The camp has nice Machhapuchhre and Annapurna peaks.

    Today, a steeper trekking to High Camp. Climb uphill via slippery trails. Enjoy the views as it passes by. Along the way, listen to the chirping of birds alongside views of the diverse vegetation. The village has been the base to climb to the Mardi Himal Base Camp. The village offers Mardi, Annapurna, Fang and Himal Chuli peaks.

    Make an early start and join your guide to get to the base of the Mardi Himal. The base has great views of the Mardi Himal. The base is also called the Upper Viewpoint. Take your time to soak in all the mountainous views and hike downhill back to the High Camp. Enjoy lunch at the high camp. And, stroll around the village for its exploration. Experience the generous way of life of the local community.

    Wake up early for a delicious meal. Take a new trip other than the trail that you previously used. A fully downhill walk to get to the muddy trail along the Sidhing Village. The village is more of a scenic one. Have views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre peaks.

    Follow your steps downhill through the village of Lumre. From Lumre, drive back to the Nayapul. Take a break at the Nayapul. Then, again drive back to the Cherapunji of Nepal. Enjoy your day wandering around the Phewa Lake. Also, enjoy the last views of the mountains of the Annapurna Massif.

    An early day as we will board the vehicle for a long drivee to the Kathmandu Valley. Stroll around the lake city before getting on the vehicle. If you want shop for souvenirs and memoirs. We will guide you to the hotel room and that’s all for this trip.

Himalaya Friendly Treks has always been keen about safety on the journey. We have prepared Trekking Equipment List which the trekkers will need during their trek in Nepal. The following list should help you with your packing. Generally, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum


Trekking boots, trekking socks, and sandals.


Down jacket, waterproof jacket, and trousers, trekking trousers, long sleeve shirts, microfleece, mid to heavyweight fleece, sleeveless or body warmer type fleece, thermals or base layer for top & bottom (merino wool or synthetic), fleece pants,


fleece gloves warm mittens and/or gloves.


Sun hat, wool or fleece hat, scarf, head torch and extra batteries for incase, and sunglasses.

Personal Equipment:

Day backpack large enough to carry water bottles, camera, lunch and extra clothing, stuff sacks for keeping your gear dry and organized, two water bottles (Nalgene wide-mouth bottles are the best), sunscreen and lip salve with a high SPF, insect repellent, water purification tablets (Pristine, Box Aqua or Aqua Mira), iPod and cards etc., trekking poles, camera with spare batteries and memory cards, insurance certificate.

Small personal first-aid kit. (Simple and light), Aspirin, first-aid tape, plasters (Band-Aids), 1 skin-blister repair kit Anti-diarrhea pills, Anti-headache pills, Cough and/or cold medicine, Anti-altitude sickness pills: Diamox or Acetylzolamide, Stomach antibiotic: Ciprofloxacin, etc. Do not bring sleeping pills as they are a respiratory depressant, Water purification tablets or water filter, 1 set of earplugs, Extra pair of prescription glasses and contact lens supplies.
