Overview

The Tsum Valley Trek is a concealed jewel among the trekking routes of Nepal. The Tsum Valley is a significant pilgrimage route and is located to the north west of Kathmandu. This trek takes you into one of the most sheltered concealed gorges in the Himalayas which until recently was a restricted region and is completely different in both culture and topography to any other region of Nepal. The people of the Tsum Valley or Tsumbas are of Tibetan origin with their own ancient vernacular, ethos and Buddhist religion and this route was once a very important trade link with Tibet.  Tsum Valley Trek is also a sole adventurous trekking rote nearby Manaslu. This trekking route is reached on Buddhist culture however our trekking begins from Arughat and continues the journey to the remote region of Tsum.

Tsum Word is derived from the Tibetan words “Tsombo” means vibrant. Tsum valley has its separate and natural resources of clear streams, swarming vegetation, mountains, pouring waterfalls, along with natural hot springs and ancient rest of natural scene and beauty. The valley is lies between the Baudha Himal, Chuli to the west, Sring Himal to the north and Ganesh Himal to the south. Tsum Valley augments in olden art, culture, and religion. We might be bright to witness the friendly people and their warm hospitality, daily routine, tradition as well as their own language. Somewhere the local people are formerly from the Tibet, they speak their own exclusive language which is similar to the Tibetan language but not Tibetan languages.  Buddhism is the foremost religion that is trained by the local people and they celebrate their own festival; Lhosar, Dhacyhang, Saka Dawa, Fanning and many more. Visit secluded monasteries and villages as you step back through time and follow an old trade route all the way to the Tibetan Border and then fly out by helicopter. We will commence our journey drive to Arughat Bazaar then we start trek along Arkhet Bazaar, Machha Khola, Yaru Khola, Lokpa, Chumling those are places of lower Tsum valley similarly, we pass over Chhokangparo (Upper Tsum), Nile/Chhule, Milarepa Piren Phu cave, Mu Gompa, Rachen Gompa, Dumje, philm, Tatopani, Lapubesi, Arughat Bazaar, laterally these places we will end and originate our journey at Arughat Bazaar. This Trail is all those trekkers who have the willingness to explore delightful unusual scenic view, cave, and enrich diverse natural resources. It also gives an chance to observe and discover the Buddhism wherever you visit the various monasteries among them largest Monastery is Mu Gompa (3,700m) etc.This trekking trail tenders us to need an experience of traditional comfortable of the Tsum Valley’s people. Throughout your trial, you can have the old-style Tibetan Chiya (butter tea) and local mean.     Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. You will be warm welcome by our airport representative and escort to your hotel. Stay Overnight at hotel Kathmandu.

    Today; it is rest day, or preparation. We get permits and arrange rest of things for our trek to Annapurna Circuit, you have choice for a guided tour to some of the most chronological and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ´Monkey Temple´ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, we get our equipment checked by our climbing leader, get introduced to fellow participants. If you would like to; we can remove day 02 in Kathmandu but we recommend you to spend your second day considering acclimatization, Kathmandu is 1350m from sea level. Stay Overnight at hotel Kathmandu.

    These day you will drive to Soti Khola via Arughat which will take about 9 hours. The drive is alienated into two parts. Our first drive will take you to the Dhading Besi, the district headquarters of Dhading district, (4hours drive). From there, it’s another 4 hours to Arughat and then another hour to Sotikhola. Stay Overnight at Guest Houses.

    Cross the bridge and trek through the beautiful Sal forests, then climb onto a ridge above huge rapids on the BudhiGandaki. The rocky trail then weaves its way up and down, past two tropical waterfalls on a steep, rocky trail clinging to the side of a cliff. It eventually makes its way down and past a few rice terraces, then up and around to the Gurung village of Labubesi. Climb behind a rocky outcrop, where the valley opens and the BudhiGandaki meanders among wide gravel bars. Drop to the sandy river bed and walk along rounded stones before climbing over a side ridge. Head down again to the river and traverse to MachhaKhola village. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    The narrow trail makes some minor ups and downs and eventually crosses the TharoKhola, flowing in a rocky ravine, then reaches Khorlabesi. After a few more ups & downs there is a small trailside hotspring, from where we reach to Tatopani. From the Hot spring we climb over another ridge, then cross the BudhiGandaki on a suspension bridge. Climb on a wide, well-crafted staircase, then across a landslide and over a ridge to Dobhan. Crossing a suspension bridge over the DobhanKhola, the trail climbs on a rugged trail to Duman. Ascending up again to the BudhiGandaki, we reach at YaruKhola. Crossing a suspension bridge over the YaruKhola we climb the stone stairs and then drop to the river and again climb more stone stairs to TharoBharyang. Cross to the west bank of the budhigandaki, climb over a ridge, and trek along the river then climb towards the village of Jagat. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    After completing with the ACAP procedure, we climb over a rocky ridge to Salleri, and then descend to Sirdibas. The valley widens a bit as the trail continues up to GhattaKhola. Continue upstream to a long simple hanging bridge. Climb up to Philim, a large gurung village. Philim valley is well known for Japanese made school and police station. Walk past Philim to the north across a forest with the views of the narrowing valley and walk up north from Gum Pul we reach Lokpa. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

     

    From Lokpa the trail descend half an hour towards Lungwakhola and climbing jick jack difficult trail further two hours north through pines and rhododendrons we reach Gumlung. Crossing the SiyarKhola, finally arrive at Chumling, lower Tsum, from where we can view ShringiHimal. Visit the old Chumlinggompa, and the stone streets of the village. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    Cross the suspension bridge onto the opposite bank. Enjoy the great views of Ganesh Himal. Walk past Rainjam to SerpuKhola crossing another bridge we arrive at the Gho Village. Another continues 2 hours climb to Tsum takes us to the village of Chhokangparo. Weather permitting; enjoy the views of Himalchuli at 7893 meters and Ganesh Himal at7140m.     We trek through the villages of Ngakyu. Leru, Lama Gaun today. We will visit a cave and pay homage. It is believed that saint Milarepa had meditated here in the cave, the cave is also known as PirenPhu meaning “Pigeon cave. We continue passing Burji, Phurbe and Pangdun villages, there is magnificent big Buddhist Stups is sighted on the way to Chhule and Nile. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

     

    We are now almost close to the Tibetan border. Walk to the west bank of the valley through the Tibetan landscapes. Climb up to the Mu Gompa. We also visit the monastery. Then after, we make a visit to the DhephuDomaGompa. Today we make a sightseeing of the whole Mu Gompa Region. Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region. The Gompa lies at the highest and most remote part of the Tsum Valley. After exploring the Mu Gompa area. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

     

    Today it is an easy walk to Chhekamparo from Nile. We trek passing through Lar Village visit the RachenGompa, which is also well known as Nunnery Gompa too, cross over a suspension bridge and trek to Chhekamparo via same trail back. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    The trail drops down from Chhekamparo to Gho and then cross Dumje Bridge. We can visit anAmchi, a Tibetan Traditional clinic and there. There is a nun; teaches some 10-21 young nun and runs small Amchi. She welcomes the visitor by Tibetan tea, we walk up about 2-3 hours that takes us to GumbaLungdang, there basic shelter and meals is provided by monastery. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    We trek to Lokpa today via Ripchet village, walk down to Dunje from GumbaLungdang and walk through the pine forest and reaching Ripchet and trail goes down steeply and retrace the same way back to Lokpa. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    Today, after breakfast at Lokpa, we walk down to Jagat. The trail goes down to Ghumpul through the pine and rhododendron forest and join to the main Manaslu trail again, We continue walk passing through EklaiBhatti, Philim, crossing BuddhiGandaki before reaching Sirdibas and finally to Jagat. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    From Jagat, the trail goes down to Bagar after walking some 15 minutes then cross the suspension bridge and walk through cantilever bridge that was built after the Nepal earthquake that hit country so badly and cause famous Manaslu trekking trail damage. Contuse the jouney via Dovan, Tatopani (hot spring), Khorlabesi and finally I stay overnight in Lapubesi. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    Today, it is last day of our trekking in Tsum Valley. We walk to Sotikhola from LapuBesi. Stay overnight at local Guest houses.

    We drive to Kathmandu by local bus. There is no tourist bus available at Sotikhola. We will arrange you 4WD private jeep that is more comfortable and safer drive if you would not like local bus that is overloaded sometimes, playing non-stop music. .A farewell dinner is organized by our team in one of the authentic Nepalese restaurant. Stay Overnight at hotel Kathmandu.

    Our office Representative will drop you at international airport and see you off. Fly back to home or further destination.

Kathmandu guest house provides different sorts of facilities with enough parking available, AC rooms, clean room with the attached bathroom. It also offers hot and cold shower facilities. It has an attractive garden with plenty of space available for rest. It offers 5-star service with located in the central point of Thamel.

Kathmandu to Sotikhola and Return Back to Kathmandu 

We also offer a 4×4 jeep for drive to Sotikhola and return back to kathmandu. which is known as the Starting trekking point of Manaslu Region. It bounces you more of a fortuitous of getting over the unforgettably last kilometers of the road from Dhading Besi. The journey is only 7 to 8 hours’ drive. We will arrange lunch stop, toilet stops and occasional short photography breaks during Drive. Provide us your Travel detail and we will try hook you up for a more affordable ride.

Meals/Accommodation

You will found extensive ranges of meals. Three meals per day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). The meals include noodles, soups, handmade breads, rice items, curries, spaghetti, pizza, egg items, and potatoes. All the meals will be served in lodges. Generally, dinner and breakfast is served in a lodge and lunch is served during the trek. You will have full possibilities or choice to choice your favored stuffs from a minor menu provided by the lodge.

The manaslu region can be considered the best region for trekking in Nepal in terms of accommodation as we will manage best accommodation for you(Our Guest). We can found some hotels having basic rooms, normally just a bed with a pillow and blankets with electric lights and all have a spacious dining room-lounge.  Now-a-days in the new constructions we can find involved bathrooms as well. Mostly the lodges in Manaslu have small room with 2 Single Bed.

Equipment List

Himalaya Friendly has always been keen about safety on the journey. We have prepared Trekking Equipment List which the trekkers will need during their trek in Nepal. The following list should help you with your packing. Generally, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum

Footwear

Trekking boots, trekking socks, and sandals.

Clothing: 

Down jacket, waterproof jacket, and trousers, trekking trousers, long sleeve shirts, microfleece, mid to heavyweight fleece, sleeveless or body warmer type fleece, thermals or base layer for top & bottom (merino wool or synthetic), fleece pants,

Handwear:

fleece gloves warm mittens and/or gloves.

Headwear:

Sun hat, wool or fleece hat, scarf, head torch and extra batteries for incase, and sunglasses.

Personal Equipment:

Day backpack large enough to carry water bottles, camera, lunch and extra clothing, stuff sacks for keeping your gear dry and organized, two water bottles (Nalgene wide-mouth bottles are the best), sunscreen and lip salve with a high SPF, insect repellent, water purification tablets (Pristine, Box Aqua or Aqua Mira), iPod and cards etc., trekking poles, camera with spare batteries and memory cards, insurance certificate.

Personal first aid kit:

Small personal first-aid kit. (Simple and light), Aspirin, first-aid tape, plasters (Band-Aids), 1 skin-blister repair kit Anti-diarrhea pills, Anti-headache pills, Cough and/or cold medicine, Anti-altitude sickness pills: Diamox or Acetylzolamide, Stomach antibiotic: Ciprofloxacin, etc. Do not bring sleeping pills as they are a respiratory depressant, Water purification tablets or water filter, 1 set of earplugs, Extra pair of prescription glasses and contact lens supplies.
